Advanced Chorus

The New Jersey Youth Chorus, founded in 1992, is an auditioned choral program

for children in grades 2 through 12,

divided into 4 ensembles:

Advanced Chorus (grades 7-12)

Young Men's Ensemble (grades 7-12 with changing/changed voices)

Intermediate Chorus (grades 4-6)

Musicianship Class (grades 2-4)

The Chorus performs locally, nationally and internationally for community, civic and corporate audiences.

Over 150 choristers come from over 40 towns in 6 counties of New Jersey.

Past Performances and Highlights

The Chorus:

Performed with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Canadian Brass, most recently at the State Theater in New Brunswick and NJPAC in Newark
Sang, by invitation at the 2008 American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) in Hartford as a featured choir
Sang, by invitation at Chorus America's National Conference In Philadelphia 2009

Performed joint concerts with visiting college choirs, including the Colgate 13 and Ithacapella
Sung with famous Irish Tenor Ronan Tynan
Appeared on the Today Show

Other Highlights:

Participated in numerous festivals in Hawaii, New Orleans, Canada, England, and Colorado
Toured and performed in Italy
Hosted visiting national and international youth choirs, including the Drakensberg Boys Choir from South Africa, the Crypt Choir from King's School in Canterbury, England, the Lincoln Boys Choir from Nebraska, the Bach Children's Chorus from Canada, and the Rutgers Men's Glee Club.

Local and Global Outreach

The New Jersey Youth Chorus committed to a “Kids for Kids” theme almost 10 years ago, whereby the Chorus seeks opportunities to perform and assist children’s organizations and charities. To date they have helped raise funds for children of September 11 victims, for children needing open heart surgery in India and participated in fundraising for The Matheny School and the American Cancer Society. They have also performed to raise funds for the victims of Hurricaine Katrina and the relief efforts in Haiti. In 2010, NJYC's Intermediate Chorus performed at a benefit for the Preeclampsia Foundation and the Young Men's Ensemble performed at the "Singing for a Cure" concert.

Our annual concerts are held during the winter holiday season and in the spring. The Chorus also performs with professional orchestras, for a variety of civic and corporate functions, and for community clubs and other organizations.

The Intermediate trip to Music in the Parks was a success! The performance was wonderful and earned the Intermediate Choir a Superior rating. The Intermediates had the highest average score of all groups that performed that day- getting 96 out of a possible 100.
